Around Indore
Indore is a major industrial and commercial city of MP state. There are
several places of tourist interest within 90 kms of Indore such as, Maheshwar,
on Narmada river, Mandu Fort, known for many monuments of 15th century
as well as Ujjain and Omkareshwar, which are of religious significance.
Maheshwar is located about 90 kms from Indore on the banks of river
Narmada. The town enjoyed a golden age in the late 18th century under
Holkar queen Rani Ahilyabai. Apart from a boat trip on the majestic Narmada
river there are several other attractions like the old fort and a palace, a number
of temples and ghats, which have a unique architectural beauty. Maheshwar
is also known for its colourfull Maheshwari saris with elegant designs. The
weaving of sarees on the handlooms can be watched in the Rehwa
cooperative society.
