Indian Patent is granted
An Indian patent (Patent No. 234952), titled “An Improved Sub-ambient Phase Change Composition” is granted to the Department of Atomic Energy (RRCAT) and School of Energy and Environment Studies (SEES), DAVV Indore by the controller of patents, India for a period of 20 years. The patent is the outcome of a Board of research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) project, entitled “Peak reduction of Air conditioning system through thermal storage”. Mr. S.S. Kulkarni, Superintending Engineer (AC&E) RRCAT, Dr. D. Buddhi and Dr. R.L. Sawhney, Professors SEES have jointly worked on this project.
In this project, a phase change material is developed that stands better than the prevalent sub-zero/sub-ambient operating PCM in respect of suitability for retrofit applications besides better energy performance. The developed material is in line with global research trend in refrigeration and air conditioning as an energy conservation measure.
