Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology is a dynamic institute with expanding activities in frontline areas of science and technology. Continuous recruitment of fresh, young, talented manpower has kept this centre vibrant with activity. In the IX Five Year Plan which began from April 1997, several new projects in various fields related to lasers, accelerators and other fields like cryogenics, computers etc. have started. For all these projects, number of scientists / engineers / technicians / tradesmen are being recruited. The recruitment is done for the posts of Scientific Officers / Scientific Assistants / Tradesmen. From time to time, new posts are advertised in leading newspapers in India. From 1997 we started recruitment by "Walk-in Interviews".From Sept.2000, we have started RRCAT Training School also. The aim is to get the best talent available in India to take the Centre to the forefront of science and technology, and also to stop / reverse the brain-drain from India.
On this page, we describe the qualifications necessary for applying for the various Scientific Officer / Engineer posts. The advertisements given out from time to time for these posts will also be linked to this page.

Scientific Officer C
- This post is offered to fresh graduates
- Applications received only through advertisement.
- The candidate has to be a citizen of India.
- The necessary qualification is successful completion of M.Sc., M.Tech., B.E., B.Tech., with minimum of 60% marks in the last examination.
- Selection is through interviews where the basic stress is on the depth of understanding in the subject (specially the fundamentals), rather than width of information about the subject.
- For those not very comfortable in English, there is an option to be interviewed in Hindi.
- Out-station candidates will be paid to and fro II class rail fare (without reservation charges).
- The subject or a combination of subjects is specified when the posts are advertised.
- Exceptionally bright or experienced candidates may be considered for additional increments at the time of appointment.
- Candidates, on selection, have to undergo medical check up before joining.
- On joining, all benefits normally available to Central Government employees will be given. In addition, the Centre offers excellent medical facilities for the staff and their dependents, schooling for their children, and transport facility.
Scientific Officer D
- This post is offered to fresh Ph.D. holders and experienced graduates.
- Applications received only through advertisement.
- The candidate has to be a citizen of India.
- The necessary qualification is successful completion of Ph.D.; or M.Tech. ( after B.E., B.Tech., or M.Sc.) with two years of relevant experience; or B.E./ B.Tech. with four years experience; or M.Sc. with five years of research experience. Minimum of 60% marks in the last examination are necessary for non-Ph.D. candidates.
- Selection is through interviews, where the stress is on the depth of understanding in the field of specialization, rather than width of information about the field.
- The field of specialization is specified when the posts are advertised.
- Out-station candidates will be paid to and fro II classs rail fare (without reservation charges).
- Exceptionally talented candidates may be considered for additional increments at the time of appointment.
- All candidates on selection have to undergo medical check up before joining.

Post Doctoral Fellows
- These fellowships are open at all times to candidates having Ph.D. with/without post-doctoral research experience in a field relevant to activities at RRCAT.
- The fellowship is initially offered for a period of one year but can be extended by one more year, depending on the performance.
- The minimum fellowship amount is Rs 12,500 per month at present. The actual fellowship amount depends upon the number of years of experience after Ph.D.
- The facilities provided are:
- Accommodation in RRCAT Guest House on payment of rent as per the applicable rate (currently Rs.750 per month) or House Rent Allowance, if accommodation is not available.
A comprehensive medical coverage to the fellow and his/her family members, under the Contributory Health Service Scheme.
Visiting Scientists
- These posts are open at all times and offered to outstanding researchers with excellent academic record and having research experience in a field relevant to activities at RRCAT.
- The post is initially offered for one year but can be extended by one more year.
- During this time, the visiting scientist may be considered for permanent absorption through a selection interview, subject to the candidate's satisfactory performance and the availability of a vacancy in the group in which he/she is working.
- At present, the honorarium offered varies from Rs 12,500 to Rs. 17,500 per month depending upon the number of years of post-doctoral research experience.
- The facilities provided to the visiting scientist are:
- Accommodation in the RRCAT Guest House on payment of rent as per the applicable rate (currently Rs.750 per month) or House Rent Allowance, if accommodation is not available.
- A comprehensive medical coverage to the scientist and his/her family members, under the Contributory Health Service Scheme.
