Ensuring the safety of personnel and property is of paramount concern at RRCAT, and Fire & Safety Section plays a pivotal role in upholding these standards. Through a range of meticulous activities and measures, the section works tirelessly to maintain safety protocols in line with the Atomic Energy Factory Rules – 1996 & Factories Act – 1948.
Major Objectives of section are
- To ensure safe working environment in RRCAT from all potential occupational hazards.
- To implement all safety regulatory measures recommended under various statutory legislations such as AERB at, Atomic energy Factories rule, RPR (Radiation protection rules).
- To maintain and monitor the Fire Detection & Alarm systems installed throughout various RRCAT research facilities and operating plants and carry out Firefighting and responding to non-fire emergencies due to natural and man-made disasters.
- To maintain and make prompt availability, during the event of emergencies, the Fire Hydrant line and its associated subsystems, spread throughout the various research facilities & Support Buildings thereby protecting & preventing unwanted fires so as to minimize loss of life, damage to property/ Equipment & impact to environment.
- To conduct regular safety inspection through various safety inspection teams which include internal safety inspection teams in various operating plants & buildings, as per AERB compliances, and to advise occupants so as to reduce risk of occupational hazards. A separate construction safety committee is also working to look into various safety concerns at construction sites.
- Safety review and scrutiny of new project proposal w.r.t. industrial safety.
- Contribution to project safety through HAZOP study, preparation of Job Hazard Analysis report, as part of fulfilment of regulatory requirements/ consent procedures.
- Extend assistance and expertise for execution of emergency preparedness mock drills.
- To ensure overall regulatory compliances as stipulated by AERB during all stage of consenting through a system of review assessment in the form of for quarterly and yearly safety reports .
- To impart training in Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Fire Protection routinely to all employees as per the AERB norms
