Fire and Safety SectionFire Hydrant Line & its associated systems
There are 69 Nos. of buildings in Technical area, including Indus-1, Indus-2, Industrial LINAC & IRFEL operating research facilities. These operating Research facilities are provided with Fire Hydrant Line (~ 11 Kms.) which are manned by a dedicated outsourced professionals to keep the line always pressurized for taking care of any untoward emergent condition.
Similarly there are 05 Nos. of Major Infrastructural facility Buildings in Non-Technical area covering Convention Centre, RRCAT GH & Hostel Facility, Medical Centre & AECS School.
Apart from These High rise Vindhya Tower (E Type), Sahyadri Tower (D Type) & Nilgiri Tower (C Type) are also provided with Hybrid (Gravity & Pump) based Fire Hydrant System.
These Facilities (Technical area & Non-Technical Infrastructural Facilities) are under the strict operation & Maintenance of the Section.

Monthly Routine inspections & preventive maintenance of fire hydrants system, isolation valves, water/foam monitors, and landing valves are conducted across RRCAT technical and residential areas. There are 111 nos. of hydrants & landing valves, 30 nos. of isolation valves, 04 nos. of foam monitors & 18 nos. of water monitors in the system.
The isolation valves & landing valves are subjected to preventive maintenance & leakages observed are rectified. Normally the glands & gaskets of the valves are found to be worn out, the same are being replaced. In all these inspections aim is to ensure:
- Smooth Operation: Confirming the functionality of water delivery valves.
- Water Pressure: Assessment of available water pressure.
- Water Discharge: Evaluation of water discharge capacities.
