Flora and Fauna
|
The RRCAT campus is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, some of the trees dating from the Holkar era. Since RRCAT was established, there has been a sustained effort to further develop a clean, healthy and beautiful green environment by large scale plantation of trees and developing gardens. Morning and evening walks have become a favourite pastime of young and old alike. Ample greenery and the two lakes provide a very suitable habitat for wild animals, resident and migratory birds, butterflies and insects. Working or living in the RRCAT campus has turned many people into avid amateur naturalists and nature photographers. Over 60 species of birds have been identified in the RRCAT campus. The insect variety is tremendous, during August-October butterflies take over some regions completely. Animals like wild hares, palm civets (kabarbijju), jackals and snakes are sighted frequently. A special effort is made to keep the Sukhniwas lake clean; the healthy and prolific fish population is a proof of the success of this effort!
