Refurbishment of aged commercial sealed off CO2 lasers
Imported sealed off CO2 lasers find wide spread applications for processing of non-metals and also in medical applications. These lasers have limited operating life, after which these are to be replaced with new ones. This involves large amount of recurring expenditure in foreign exchange. In most of the cases, no technical support is provided by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) for refurbishment of these aged non-functional lasers. RRCAT has developed an indigenous technology for refurbishment of aged imported sealed off CO2 lasers and developed technology has been successfully used to refurbish many non-functional 100 W CO2 lasers for Government Institutes. These refurbished lasers have been performing satisfactorily in the production line. Successful refurbishment of these imported lasers has not only brought about significant saving of foreign exchange, but also reduced plant down time.
CO2 Laser Refurbishing Setup
Subsequent to the success of the above, now the services of laser refurbishment available to Indian industries through "Incubation Centre-RRCAT" because of the followings:
- At present, such refurbishment technology is not commercially available
- The availability of indigenous technology will immensely benefit Indian industry by cutting down considerable amount of recurring expenditure in foreign expenditure and
*subject to the availability of spare capacity after catering R&D and present in-house demand.
