Power Converters Developed by HVSS
HV Systems, Power supplies and Electronics for 300 keV DC Accelerator
a. a. A 10 kW Inverter for 300 keV DC Accelerator has been developed to feed the 12 stage HV multiplier stack. A buck controlled converter powered a full bridge inverter operating at 30 kHz with ZVS switching. The bridge fed to an LCLC resonant network to give sinusoidal input to a fully balanced Cockcroft Walton based 12 stage multiplier stack through a high voltage centre tapped ferrite cored transformer. High voltage feedback was taken through a high voltage divider network.

10 kW Soft Switched High Frequency Power Converter with Filament Supply |
b.Filament Supply
The filament of the electron gun was floating at -300 kV w.r.t. earth. A buck converter controlled the DC input to a full bridge resonant inverter switching at 40 kHz. The sinusoidal output was fed to the filament of the electron gun through a capacitive divider followed by a step down transformer. The capacitive column provided the required 300 kV isolation. The beam current of the accelerator is stabilized and controlled by closed loop control of this supply with respect to the emission current of the accelerator.
