Metallic and semiconducting thin films and nanoparticles (Au, PbS, PbI2, Si, TiO2, ZnO, ZrO2, YSZ etc) have been synthesized using laser ablation, laser vaporization and also wet chemical methods. For thin films of materials like ZnO, TiO2 we also use atomic layer deposition method. The choice of materials is made as per the requirement of devices and these parameters include e.g. strong light absorption, transport of charge carriers, light emission or large optical nonlinearity etc.
Conjugated organic molecules and polymers with strong optical response such as Fullerenes (C60, C70), Chalcones, PPVs, donor-acceptor type polymers etc. have been synthesized and processed. NLO properties of these materials have been investigated for their applications in developing photonic components including solid state optical limiter, higher harmonic generation, sources for THz generation etc.
